I do like to attend the annual Brighton gig by The Beat, I first saw them in 1980 when they released their first album “I Just Can’t Stop It” and there are now three incarnations of the band touring. Their original lead singer Dave Wakeling lives and tours in the States, while original drummer Everett Moreton now plays in Beat Goes Bang who perform a mixture of original songs alongside Beat numbers.

Tonight however it’s Ranking Rogers’ version of the band who are playing. Alongside his son Ranking Junior aka Mini Murphy they make for a dynamic team, who power their way through the classic tunes alongside a couple of new songs.

Difficult to mention a stand out track but it’s always great to hear songs like “Mirror In The Bathroom”, “Ranking Full Stop”, “Tears Of A Clown”, “Jackpot” and anti-fascist song “Two Swords”

I’ve reviewed then a few times on this site before but it’s worth mention that they’re well worth catching as they give a great live performance that never fails to entertain.
