Studio One songstress Dawn Penn retired in the 70’s but is still well known for recording the Rocksteady classic “You don’t love me (no, no, no)” produced by the legendary Coxone Dodd. This song was re-released in the early 90’s and became the big hit that everyone knows, and Ms Penn is still able to tour and record because of it. Her set here contains lots of enjoyable Reggae/Rocksteady numbers that have that vintage Studio One sound.

Her voice is quite bluesy, lending itself to the plaintive Lovers Rock style songs. Of course it’s the big hit that gets the huge reaction from the crowded bar, but it’s her most recognisable song and a pretty great one too. Good to see her still on the road and playing out, big up to Miss Dangerous Promotions for putting her on in Brighton. See her interview with Dawn Penn here.

Peace.
