Derriere play a rousing mix of old soul, rhythm ‘n’ blues and rockabilly and are fronted by human dynamo, ex-nurse and all round cheeky lassie Gloria Stittes (ooh Matron!). Their line-up consists of drums, trombone, sax, guitar and upright bass and includes some members of the now defunct Baby Charles.

They start with a smouldering, sassy version of Screaming Jay Hawkins’ “I put a spell on you” and from there we’re into foot stomping, good time soul, rhythm and jump blues. This sort of stuff is always great to dance to and even better to hear played live so they have little trouble generating a great party athmosphere . In a similar vein to what Kitty, Daisy and Lewis are doing, this sort of music has never really gone away and will always find an audience. Great stuff from yet another great Brighton band.

Peace.
